Year-round training programs for Special Olympics Minnesota athletes are designed to improve physical conditioning and competence in 16 official state-level sports. Meaningful training and competition opportunities are available for persons with intellectual disabilities. The variety of sports offered provides athletes with the opportunity to train, compete and improve at the individual or team level.
Note: Not every local delegation offers training in every sport.
Special Olympics Minnesota also offers Unified Sports, which combines athletes with and without disabilities on the same team. By participating together, athletes and partners improve their physical fitness, sharpen their skills, challenge the competition and overcome prejudices about intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Minnesota offers events in every sport except alpine skiing, poly hockey, powerlifting and snowboarding.
