Equestrian is one of the most unique sports offered at Special Olympics Minnesota. The balance, stability, and right communication between the horse and the rider is a key element for success.

Participants will be divisioned by Special Olympics Minnesota based on ability level and age to give them a competitive experience.

Western Working Trails
Showmanship at Halter/Bridle Classes
Barrel Class (A1, B1 and C1 Levels Only)
Pole Weaving (A1, B1 and C1 Levels Only)

Levels
A1: Can perform walk, trot, and canter independently
B1: Can perform walk and trot independently
BS or B3: Can perform walk and trot supported
C1: Can perform walk independently
CS or C2: Can perform walk supported

Competition season

Equestrian competitions take place in August.

Become a coach!

All coaches and Unified partners who work with our athletes need to be Level 1 certified. We also offer additional trainings (Level 2) for each sport for coaches that want more sport-specific education. These trainings can be found through the Special Olympics Registration Portal, where you can begin your journey or, if you’re a current coach and/or Unified partner, update your certifications.
