Introducing the new Special Olympics Registration Portal! This portal will be a place for you to manage your volunteer account and find out about upcoming events and opportunities.

All coaches and Unified partners must be Level 1 certified, which requires completing multiple trainings and passing a background check (for individuals 18 and older). With Level 1 certification, coaches and Unified partners are eligible to participate in any Special Olympics Minnesota (SOMN) sport. Both the trainings and background check are valid for three years.

Starting November 6, 2024, Special Olympics Minnesota will transition to a new Registration Portal for all coach certifications. This portal includes access to background checks as well as Level 1 and Level 2 training and allows each volunteer to have a personal profile to track their certification status and receive notifications for upcoming training requirements.

Coach recognition items
Level 2 certified coaches are eligible to order one recognition item per calendar year (January through December). This offer does not apply to Level 1 certifications.

Important note!

If you were a coach or Unified partner with Special Olympics Minnesota before November 6, 2024, do not create a new account in the portal.

Instead, you will receive an email with instructions for activating your account between November 2024 and January 2025. Please wait for this email, as creating a new account prematurely may require you to complete all certifications again, as if you were joining SOMN for the first time.

More details about this email are available in the FAQ section.

Are you a current coach, HOD or team admin?

We have already created accounts for volunteers who are active in our system. Over the next several months, existing volunteers will receive an activation link for their account. Stay tuned!

If you know that your L1 will expire soon and have not received an activation link, please contact [email protected]
