Over 3,300 participants will gather for the organization’s biggest statewide competition in June.
Minneapolis, MN – June 4, 2024 – Special Olympics Minnesota will host the 2024 Special Olympics Summer Games over two weekends in June. Century Middle School in Lakeville will host swimming and gymnastics on Sat., June 15 and Sun., June 16. Stillwater Area High School will host track & field and basketball from Fri., June 21 to Sun., June 23. The public is invited to cheer on more than 3,300 athletes and coaches from across Minnesota as they compete.
“Summer Games is our biggest competition of the year,” said Dave Dorn, President & CEO of Special Olympics Minnesota. “This event showcases our mission to create communities where everyone has an opportunity to fully participate and be a part of a team. If you haven’t been to a Special Olympics Minnesota event before, come out and join us! There’s a place for everyone in this amazing community.”
Along with competing, athletes have the opportunity to take part in the Special Olympics “Healthy Athletes” program. “Healthy Athletes” provides a variety of health screenings, services and clinics focused on addressing the health disparities often experienced by people with intellectual disabilities.
The Special Olympics Minnesota Summer Games is made possible by the support of dedicated volunteers who share the organization’s vision of fostering an inclusive society. More than 2,000 volunteers will contribute their time and talents to help organize and host the event. Their invaluable support will play an instrumental role in creating a memorable experience for athletes, families, and spectators alike.
