Frequently Asked Questions

What vehicles are accepted?

Running and non-running cars are accepted as well as trucks, motorcycles, boats, planes, snowmobiles, heavy machinery, trailers and RVs on a case-by-case basis. If you have questions about a vehicle you’d like to donate, call 888-828-0022.

Who is responsible for changing ownership of the vehicle?

In order to transfer ownership of your car, you’ll have to sign your title over to Advanced Remarketing Services. If you can’t find your title, you’ll have to apply for a duplicate title. Instructions on how to sign your Minnesota title can be found on the car donation website or you can call the processing center at 888-828-0022 and a customer service representative can walk you through the process.

Do I need to notify the DMV if I donate my car?

Yes. After your car is picked up, notify the Minnesota DVS that you donated your vehicle by filling out a Report of Sale.

How much money will Special Olympics receive from my car donation?

Advanced Remarketing Services returns 75-80% of the gross selling price of your car back to Special Olympics, the highest of any vehicle donation program!

How do you write off a donated car on taxes?

Within 30 days of the sale of your vehicle, you’ll receive an email with a tax receipt for your car donation. If your car sold for over $500, you can claim the full selling price when you itemize taxes. If it sold for less than $500, you can claim the fair market value up to $499. Please consult with your tax advisor on the best way to claim your Special Olympics Minnesota car donation tax deduction.
