During the COVID-19 pandemic Special Olympics Minnesota has modified our season calendar, sport offerings and where our in-person events are offered. The health and safety of our athletes, coaches, Unified partners and supporters is our number one priority so we are offering Return to Play in-person practices and invitationals following the guidelines from Special Olympics International, Centers for Disease Control, and the Minnesota Department of Health.
Regional Competitions allow athletes an additional opportunity to compete in their sport and are open to all delegations across Minnesota, although priority will be given to areas invited.
In 2022, we’re offering four state-level competitions:
State Alpine Skiing & Snowboarding (February)
State Summer Games (June)
- Gymnastics & swimming – dates TBD
- Track & basketball – June 24-26, Stillwater High School
Summer Sports Classic (August)
- Tennis – dates TBD
- Equestrian – August 19
- Golf – August 21
State Bowling (November)
USA Games are held every four years. Each United States program sends a delegation to represent their state.
World Games are held every two years and alternate between Summer and Winter Games. Athletes from the United States programs unite as one delegation to form Team USA.
