Healthy Athletes health screenings are pivotal in helping athletes see the finish line, hear the roar of the crowd, show off their smiles when they get medals and stay fit for competition. In addition to competing in swimming, gymnastics, track and field and basketball, athletes could attend Healthy Athletes screenings at Special Olympics Minnesota’s 2024 Summer Games in Lakeville and Stillwater. Over the two weekends of competition, athletes had the opportunity to go through five of the eight Healthy Athletes screenings that Special Olympics Minnesota offers: Health Promotion, Special Smiles, Opening Eyes, FunFitness, and Healthy Hearing. I interviewed athletes, parents, coaches and clinical directors to ask them about the importance of health screenings for the Special Olympics Minnesota community.
