The primary mission of an Area Sports Management Team is to provide quality sports training and competitive opportunities to athletes within a geographical area. The state is divided into 12 Area programs to facilitate these opportunities. Each program is managed by volunteer Area Coordinators and their Area Sports Management Team whose general direction and support is provided by the Sports Program Managers on staff at the State Office. The Area Sports Management Team (ASMT) is the essential link between local programs and the Special Olympics Minnesota State Office.
The Purpose of a Sports Management Team:
• establish a working structure for the Area • assist the Area Sports Coordinator and Area Administrative Coordinator in the development and implementation of sports programs consistent with the policies of Special Olympics International and Special Olympics Minnesota • offer input regarding the quality and quantity of events and games to be offered • offer input regarding the number of athletes and volunteers recruited for involvement in the program • offer input regarding the participation by various institutions and schools within the community and area structure • identify annual budget considerations • effectively conduct fundraising endeavors • develop public education strategies • assist in completing a comprehensive annual Area Action Plan
