Flag football is the newest sport offered by Special Olympics Minnesota. Flag football is offered as a Unified sport, which means individuals with and without disabilities are on the same team. The flag football season runs from August to mid October.

Athletes may now register to participate in flag football individual skills at Area and state events (if planning on attending state competition, the athlete must first compete at Area). Athletes who participate in flag football individual skills are not allowed to also play 5 vs 5 Unified flag football at the same tournament. Athletes who compete in individual skills must participate in individual skills at practice and the coach must record their score on the online registration form.

Individual skills athletes compete in four stations: Run and Catch; Throwing for Accuracy; Throwing for Distance; and Agility and Speed. Please see the individual skills rules and score sheet for how to score and run skills at your practice.

Individual skills is an event designed for athletes who use wheelchairs, need assistance on the field or are not interested in playing 5 vs 5 football.
