Dave Ryan's 5K for Special Olympics Minnesota to be held Sept. 18

Annual event to take place at Boom Island Park

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Aug. 17, 2010 – The 2010 Dave Ryan's 5K for Special Olympics Minnesota will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Boom Island Park, 724 Sibley Street NE in Minneapolis. An estimated 1,000 runners, walkers and supporters are expected to participate at this year's event.

The annual 5K run/walk gives support to more than 6,700 athletes of Special Olympics Minnesota and helps to provide athletes from across the state with year-round sports training and competition. Dave Ryan's 5K for Special Olympics Minnesota is presented by KDWB with support from the Minneapolis Park Police, the Minnesota Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board, Fitness 19 and Chevy Riders.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. on race day with the race beginning at 9 a.m. The 5K run/walk is a family-friendly event and is open to all ages and ability levels. The cost to register is $25 prior to the day of the race and $30 on race day and includes an event t-shirt. Participants can choose to raise extra funds for Special Olympics Minnesota with the ability to earn additional prizes.
